ABICH laboratories offer a wide range of services in the field of biological and chemical analysis thanks to the  many years of experience of its staff in different industry sectors such as cosmetics, biomedicals, textiles, environment, industrial hygiene, analytical chemistry and biological R&D.

In our laboratory new biotechnology–based methods have been developed and are in ongoing expansion to assess the safety and effectiveness of consumer goods such as cosmetics, medical devices, detergents and textiles.

ABICH has developed a wide panel of alternative in vitro assays and proposes them to the Italian and International markets, in accordance with the most recent European guidelines that foresee the replacement of animals for consumer products testing.

These assays employ primary and secondary cell cultures and reconstituted human epithelia or epidermis that perfectly mimick the behaviour and responses of human skin/mucosae to investigate the toxicological profile and the biological activity of products aimed at human use.

These methods have been developed in scientific collaboration with main public and private research institutes in Italy (San Raffaele Biomedical Science Park, Milano, Italy; Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale of Brescia, Italy), according to the technical guidelines issued by ECVAM. the EU Commission’s Center for the Validation of Alternative Methods. based in Ispra (VA), Italy.

Out of a collaboration between Abich Laboratories and the Molecular and Cellular Immunology Laboratory of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, a spin-off service testing company was created (ALLTOX) with the aim to set up innovative testing methods and research projects concerning skin contact allergies related to consumer products.

Currently, seven members of staff out of a total of 8 employees hold a degree or a PhD in some scientific discipline. The company laboratories are equipped with a state-of-the-art cell culture facility, a fully equipped analytical chemistry division, a microbiological division and a laboratory dedicated to product formulation & development.

ABICH also offers services in the fields of training, technical consulting and due diligences, and scientific communication.

CHALLENGE TEST
- On the bases of the new ISO standard draft method n. 11930 for the assessment of the efficacy of the preservative system in comsmetics, a validation of the microbiological analytical method on each single matrix will be required, as it already happens with the Pharmacopoeia method. The standard will be published the next year and will support in the best way the safety evaluation need in compliance with the new Regulation 1223/2009, annex I. IN VIVO EFFICACY TEST FOR COSMETICS
the new test based on the laser blu technique (DERMA-TOP) is now available for the quantitative determination and visual identification of wrinkles, skin profilometry and tridimensional details of the face and body surface. High quality 3D imaging, very quick data acquisition, ability to identify and monitor skin surface and volume details in the very same site at different acquisition end-times. It is the ideal technique to point out and scientifically support the reduction of the under-eye ba [to be continued]
